Domestic cats have long, powerful bodies and somewhat rounded heads. They have short, strong jawsequipped with 30 sharp teeth for special abilities. Domestic cats see better in dim light then people do. They can climb trees, run at high speed, and leap long distances. Also they have good balanceand can easily walk on tops of narrow edges. When cats fall they almost always land on their feet.

Members of the cat family are skillful hunters. They move very swiftly and quietly with their padded feet when hunting. They might even wait motionless until an animal comes clso and then suddenly spring on them.

No one knows exactly when cats were tamed. Some people think that they were tamed about 5,000 years ago. People mostly use cats for hunting mice, snakes, and rats. cats help farms, barns houses and other business places clear of those brats and many more, too.

The Ancient Egyptians considered cats sacred. Today, people think cats bring good fortune. But yet, some people think cats are bad luck, so they are scared of them. Many people find cats mysterious because their eyes glow in the dark.

The grace and beauty of cats is what mostly what makes them so popular to the artists. Oriental writers praised their catsin some of their stories and poems. Sometimes cats are even in fairy tales, folk tales, and legends of contries. So they are used quite a bit in all kinds of things.
